A night out in Lima at the Jazz Zone

The Jazz Zone brings a little different flavor to the typical Peruvian music scene.  The cozy, intimate scene offers a pleasant Jazz zone perulittle setting to enjoy musical performances by local and international musicians. If you aren’t that into jazz, is doesn’t really matter, the club/bar is a nice change of pace and makes for a good night out.

The Jazz Zone invites musicians who play a variety of typical Jazz, Latin and Acid Jazz, Peruvian Flamenco and more. The web-site www.jazzzoneperu.com keeps an up-to-date schedule by week, and by month of the artists that will be performing. (It is in Spanish).

This weekend, starting tonight, Friday, we have “La Efectiva” who will play at 10:30 with a cover of 25 soles. The band plays hard-hitting salsa. Saturday’s show starts at 10:30 as well, but the cover goes up to 30 soles for Berimbau, a Brazilian style set of vocalists who will be playing samba, Brazilian rock, bossa nova, and more.

The place is also good for drinks and appetizers; it is just a nice place to sit back, relax, and hang out with friends. The scene is a mix of trendy locals and grungy foreigners, which is typical of the off-beat cultural places in all of South America.

Music is available for purchase at the club from a number of South and Central American musicians. You can read reviews of the albums by visiting the web-site.

One of the coolest things about the Jazz Zone is that they also offer music classes. Classes are given year round, and are generally 2 month courses. Jazz classThey are designed to train those with or without musical experience on a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, bass, drums and percussion, flute, saxophone and trumpet. The two hour workshops are given once a week from Monday to Saturday between 9 am to 7 pm. Classes max out at 4 people, assuring each one receives personal attention from the instructor. You can email info@jazzzoneperu.com for more information.

The Jazz Zone is located in the Pasaje el Suche, an alleyway nothing like your typical alleyway, in Miraflores, the address is La Paz 656, Lima.

The club is open from 9 pm – 3 am Mondays to Saturdays. The phone is +51 1 241 8139.
